Welcome to Reach

I’m Freddie, a music journalist (mainly) writing about the field of contemporary electronic dance and ambient music. Reach is a place where I can share my thoughts about the music I love, and exercise my skill as a writer.

I’ll seek to provide readers with really exceptional music, but also try to pry open the lid for a deeper investigation into the nature of the art, and what separates it from the pack. Music is a subjective thing and that is its beauty. I can’t promise to be impartial to my favourites, but I’ll make it fun!

Free or Paid?

Until November 2024, Reach was entirely free. After two years, it was about time I put a price tag (or a “pay-what-you-want” label) on the work I do. The differences between paid and free will be developed gradually along with the growth of the platform.

What to expect from the full package:

  • Three to four emails per month

  • Monthly specialised playlist updates (pending a new home)

  • Regular reviews of recently-released music, and the odd recap of older releases

  • Interviews with musicians across a spread of perspectives and styles

  • Thinkpieces (and exposition) on contemporary music industry matters

  • Label and artist deep-dives

  • Experimental forms of writing about music (coming soon)

If you’ve enjoyed your free subscription, please consider upgrading to paid; it will help keep my best work coming to your inbox. If you aren’t able to upgrade, then share it to your friends! As with many small, independent endeavours, Reach depends on word-of-mouth to grow its audience.

Huge thanks to Matěj Moravec for the graphic design and direction for Reach.
